Arla’s organic products are already a consumer’s guarantee for less chemicals and greater biodiversity. But in Sweden, Arla has gone a step further: When drinking a glass of milk, cooking with cream, or eating a slice of cheese from the Arla Ko® Eko range, the consumer is now assured that it comes with a carbon net zero footprint. 

More and more organic farmers in Sweden are investing in biogas plants that utilize the energy in the cattle manure. And by optimizing the cattle feed and caring for the animals, they can get more milk for less emissions. The Swedish organic Arla farmers use only renewable electricity, and will use 100% fossil-free fuel by 2022.

Carbon net zero footprint, or climate neutral, means to capture or prevent emissions of greenhouse gases by balancing it out by other actions. In Sweden, Arla’s organic farmers follow the latest standards for climate calculations: the ISO standard 14021 on environmental communication, and the Greenhouse Gas Protocol.

Arla counteracts through tree plantings, investments in forest protection that are otherwise at risk of being cut down - just to mention a few. For those emissions that we cannot yet eliminate, we compensate through certified projects in other parts of the world.
