Root Vegetable Crisps

Making your own root vegetable crisps is not difficult and they taste great! Serve them as a snack or as a luxury to go with soup or a main course.

Ingredients

Beetroot
1
Carrot
1
Parsnip
1
Brown white onion
1
Chioggia beet
1
Wheat flour
1 handful
Oil
250 ml
Sea salt
½ tbsp

Instructions

Step 1

  • Peel all the root vegetables. Slice them thinly, preferably using a mandolin. Mix the thinly sliced onion into a little wheat flour for crisper onion rings.

Step 2

  • Pour the oil into a saucepan, heating to about 140 °.

Step 3

  • Fry a little at a time. Start with the carrot and fry until the slices are crispy for about 5 mins, gently turning them over in the oil while cooking.

Step 4

  • Use a slotted spoon to remove the cooked carrots and put them on some paper kitchen towel to drain and cool. Sprinkle with salt.

Step 5

  • Repeat for the other sliced vegetables. Do not leave the hot oil unattended.
