Deviled eggs

Instructions
Tips
Although the cream cheese should do the thickening, if you wish to thicken the deviled egg filling, you can use a few extra egg yolks.
Tips
To ensure a smooth-textured filling, it is important to use soft, room-temperature cream cheese. You can achieve this by either leaving the cream cheese out on the countertop for 30 minutes to 1 hour, submerging the sealed package in warm water for 5-10 minutes or microwaving it at 10-15 second increments until it reaches the desired softness (make sure you do not accidentally bake the cream cheese though).
Questions about deviled eggs
With this recipe in your repertoire, you always have an idea for a lovely egg dish. Continue reading below to learn more about these delicious, deviled eggs with cream cheese and spicy ingredients.
Deviled eggs are popular across Europe, North America, and Australia with recipes dating back to Ancient Rome. The dish consists of hard-boiled eggs which have been cut in half and stuffed with a filling made by mixing the yolks with, in this recipe, cream cheese. This creamy filling is most often spiced with flavourful ingredients like tabasco, mustard, and spices such as paprika and cayenne pepper. The dish is usually served cold and garnished with fresh herbs like chives and a vibrant spice like paprika to create beautiful contrasts in colour.
Spicy deviled eggs are a great appetiser as they are incredibly easy and quick to prepare. Start by shelling the hard-boiled eggs and cutting them in half. Remove the egg yolks and mash them with a fork before mixing them with soft, room-temperature cream cheese. Spice the filling with tabasco, mustard, and paprika. Season it to taste before filling the halved eggs with the spicy yolk and cream cheese filling. Garnish with chives for a bit of freshness and colour.
The perfect deviled egg needs a hard-boiled egg with bright yellow yolk – there should be no tint of green in sight. To achieve this, place the eggs in a single layer at the bottom of a pot. Pour cold water over them so they are nearly covered. Now bring the water to a boil over medium-high heat. Turn down the heat and let the eggs simmer for 8 minutes. Start your timer when the water boils. Afterwards, transfer the hard-boiled eggs to a bowl of cold water. Leave them in this water for 8 minutes to make the peeling process easier.
Stuffed, hard-boiled eggs should not be allowed to sit at room temperature for more than 2 hours. If temperatures are high or they are sitting out in direct sunlight, this time goes down to just 1 hour. Since they are best served cold, you should store them in the fridge where they will keep for up to 2 days if stored in an airtight container. Though you cannot refrigerate the finished, filled deviled eggs for a long time, the unshelled, hard-boiled eggs may be refrigerated for up to 1 week and may as such be prepared in advance.
We do not recommend freezing deviled egg leftovers. You might be able to freeze the yolk filling, but since it contains cream cheese, you risk the texture being grainy and liquid after thawing. We recommend storing leftovers in the fridge for up to 2 days and making a new batch if you are in the mood for more later on.
Our basic deviled egg recipe may have left you wondering how they got their name since these stuffed eggs are neither evil nor possessed. Essentially 'to devil something' means to make a dish hot, peppery, or spicy by seasoning it with a selection of spicy ingredients. As such, our deviled eggs with tabasco sauce, mustard, and paprika are deviled because they are seasoned with several spices.

Classic deviled eggs
Our deviled egg recipe yields eggs with all the textures and flavours you would expect from this classic lunch side. However, though many recipes suggest using mayonnaise in the filling, we make ours with cream cheese. This makes the filling even richer and creamier.
The spiced filling has a creamy, velvety, and almost fluffy consistency. As such, it functions as a great contrast to the soft, slightly rubbery texture of the hard-boiled egg whites, and combined, you get a delicious, irresistible treat that is delicious on any lunch table.
Feel the heat from tabasco, mustard, and paprika
This recipe would not be complete without a selection of deliciously spicy ingredients. In our spicy deviled egg recipe, we have chosen to pair tabasco sauce, vibrant paprika, and yellow mustard for a complex flavour profile with spicy, smoky, and sweet flavours as well as tart and tangy vinegary undertones. Our deviled egg spices complement each other to create a great-tasting snack dish that packs some heat.
Serve for lunch, as an appetiser, or on a cold table

Experiment with the recipe
With this simple side dish, you have plenty of opportunities to play around with different ingredients and toppings. Try our variants described below to find the best deviled eggs for your taste.
Deviled eggs with bacon
Bacon is truly one of the very best deviled egg toppings. The salty taste and crunchy texture of beautifully fried, crumbled bacon work exceedingly well with the soft and creamy yolk and cream cheese filling. You should try a deviled egg with bacon if you enjoy contrasting textures and a salty touch, and if anything with bacon is irresistible to you, it is one variation you do not want to miss.
Deviled eggs with avocado
Try a deviled egg with avocado to get a sweeter counterpart to the spiced egg yolk filling. The filling will be extra creamy and have slightly nutty and earthy undertones that beautifully complement its spiciness as well as the yolks’ mild savoury flavour. Garnish your avocado deviled egg with coriander for a fresh, citrussy surprise.
Deviled eggs with relish
In your quest to make the best spicy deviled eggs, you might also like to try a deviled egg with relish. A slightly sour relish with pickles will add a lovely tang and saltiness to the dish. Since citrussy dill is often used in these relishes, this variety is perfect with fresh dill on top.
